My Thoughts:
What a fun holiday rom-com! Overall, I really enjoyed this debut novel. I loved that it incorporates Christmas and Hanukkah and it also touches on other Jewish holidays as well.
This book touches on some serious topics and family issues. Abuse is such a sensitive topic and I think this book did a great job talking about it. In depth content warnings can always be found on Storygraph.
One of my favorite lines in the book was the idea that a Jewish lady decided to open a Christmas tree farm so she didn’t have to deal with people for about 10 months a year. Oy vey!
I enjoyed the relationship that bloomed between Noelle and Miriam and based on the epilogue, I imagine we’ll get to see a second book to continue with Hannah’s story.
Quick Take: This was a great holiday rom-com pick and I will be recommending this for years to come on holiday romance lists!
It felt like they were in a snow globe, precious and fragile, and at any moment, someone might turn the whole thing over and shake it.
My Review Rating: 4.5 / 5 Stars
Topics & themes: queer community, abusive family, sober living, death of a loved one, trying to save a small business during the holidays, art as a career, Instagram fame, Jewish family
Romance tropes & steam: close proximity, relationship of convenience, a bit of enemies to lovers
“A warm, cozy holiday romance . . . a vibrant exploration of embracing that which is most unexpected in life . . . and in love. Best read under the glow of rainbow twinkle lights with a cup of cocoa.”
