The final days of Fall are upon us here in Portland, leaving me in a weird juxtaposition of moods… does that happen to you too?
Thanksgiving is only a few days away and the final leaves of Fall are quickly making their descent. The weather will start getting colder and snow will be here in a few weeks. I remember our first year in Portland, the changing seasons brought us a white Christmas and it was one of the most beautiful things to experience. I felt like I was starting in my very own Hallmark movie, except it was real life.
Reflecting on all of the things we’re grateful for is difficult when we barely have time to pause with so much going on. Black Friday sales have already started popping up and everyone is in a juxtaposition of thinking of gratitude while at the same time, stockpiling gifts for friends and family. Hanukkah and Christmas are almost a month away but everyone will begin decorating the minute Thanksgiving is over (if they haven’t already). And do I even need to mention how busy some companies are right now on top of all the holidays happening?! It’s enough to even make a calm person anxious.
Your inbox is likely already flooding with all of the sales happening and tons of shopping gift guides. I’m not sending you more of that right now!
Instead of heaping on more ways to spend money and shop the sales, I hope I can bring you a moment of peace and quiet with a calm reminder; when you feel overwhelmed, take a deep breath and do your best to be present with your family and loved ones when it matters most. Those moments together are irreplaceable and so incredibly precious. Enjoy them.
